Owner Xia supports me says Bruce

Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has the backing of owner Tony Xia as he bids to turn things around at Villa Park by halting a run of nine matches without a win.

Villa have not won in ten matches with their last success coming on Boxing Day against Burton Albion with Bruce’s side scoring just five goals in nine games.

Villa were again disappointing away to Newcastle United on Monday evening where they suffered a 2-0 defeat to the Championship League leaders at St James’ Park.

Villa currently sit in 17th position in the Championship, six points above the drop zone.

However, Bruce has spoken with the owner Tony Xia who has given the manager his full support, with the manager revealing to the Birmingham Mail: “He [Xia] has messaged me his support. I think he is desperate for me to turn it round.

“He understands. What we don’t understand is the run we are on.

“But I will turn it around. I need time and, of course, I need a few results. But six weeks ago I’m the saviour and now it’s off with his head.”

Despite the addition of eight new signings in the January transfer window, including Barnsley duo Conor Hourihane and James Bree, plus Brentford striker Scott Hogan, Villa remain winless in 2017.

Villa remain 25/1 outsiders for relegation but Bruce will be desperate to halt his side’s terrible run of form as questions surrounding his future continue to mount, especially following back-to-back home defeats to Ipswich Town and Barnsley
