Christopher Samba has been training with Aston Villa for over a week now and we’re no closer to knowing whether he’ll be signing a permanent contract with club.
However, it appears a ‘trial by fire’ approach has been taken as Samba will take part in a behind-closed-doors friendly today as he bids to earn himself a contract at Villa Park, the Birmingham Mail claim.
The 32-year-old has been on the free agent market since the middle of January after his release from Panathinaikos and he spent time training with Crystal Palace but Sam Allardyce decided not to sign the defender he worked with at Blackburn.
CEO Keith Wyness has spoken to the Birmingham Mail about Samba’s situation and whether he will be signing for the Villains.
“Chris has been training for over a week. He’s impressed everyone so far but it’s the manager’s decision.
“I’ve yet to have any conversation with the manager about wanting him to join the squad. He’s fit, according to everyone I’ve spoken to, but it’s up to Steve Bruce.”
Samba is one of several free agents Steve Bruce has been keeping track of as he looks to bolster his squad for the remainder of the season.
