Aston Villa’s hopes of landing Sam Gallagher from Southampton this summer look to have been put in doubt.
According to a report from the Mirror today, the Saints are keen to keep hold of the young forward for many years to come and are ready to offer him a new, long-term deal on the south coast.
Gallagher spent last season on loan with Blackburn Rovers, where he enjoyed a highly successful season despite their relegation.

The striker netted 12 times for the Rovers and made an impression on several teams, with the trio of Villa, Cardiff and Sunderland all subsequently linked with moves.
However Saints, who have a glittering reputation of nurturing and developing their academy graduates, appear to have Gallagher in their plans ahead of next season.
Aston Villa seem to be keen on adding a new striker to their ranks this summer, but they may have to turn their attentions away from signing Saints’ young attacker.
