Sheffield Wednesday are being linked with a shock move for Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton, the Birmingham Mail reports.
The Yorkshire club are hoping to agree a fee with Villa to take the player to Hillsborough and they could be set to speak to Hutton as soon as today.
The 32-year-old left-back took the option to activate a 12-month contract extension on his deal at Villa Park back in March. The further 12 months will keep Hutton at the club until the summer of 2018.
Hutton joined Villa from Tottenham back in 2011 and last season saw him make 36 appearances for Steve Bruce’s side.
With the Scot firmly being Villa’s first choice right-back it will prove a tough challenge for the Owls if they are to complete the signing of Hutton.
The difficulties of convincing Villa to sell to a Championship rival were proven last year when Sheffield Wednesday were unsuccessful in trying to sign left-back Joe Bennett.
