Despite having a bid rejected, Villa boss Steve Bruce is still quietly confident of bringing Stoke midfielder Glenn Whelan to Villa Park, speaking to the Birmingham Mail.
After securing the services of former Chelsea captain John Terry earlier this week, Bruce believes the experienced Irish international will add the “steel, determination and aggression” needed to get his side out of the Championship.
An offer for the 33-year-old was believed to be in the region of £500,000 was rejected two weeks ago by the Premier League side who are understood to want twice that amount, with Bruce urging Villa officials to submit a new offer.
Villa are currently away on a pre-season training camp in Portugal, with chief executive Keith Wyness insisting that they are still working on a deal, and are confident, however, it will take time.
Wyness said: “I think that might take a little while, people are in different parts of the world just now so that one could take another couple of weeks.”
