It appears Aston Villa are set to land Stoke and Ireland international Glenn Whelan, according to The Mirror.
Manager Steve Bruce has had his eye on Whelan all summer long and it seems that a deal will be happening as soon as Villa can get rid of unwanted players to make room for the 33-year-old.
It was understood that Derby and Gary Rowett were keen on bringing the experienced midfielder to the club but Villa are the club Whelan appears to be destined for.

Whelan has made almost 300 appearances for Stoke over the course of his nine years with the club.
The midfielder will have a new challenge next season at Villa Park with the Championship side already busy in the summer transfer window, bringing in none other than John Terry, the Chelsea legend.
Steve Bruce and the Villa team will hope they can achieve promotion back to the Premier League this season and the experience that both Whelan and Terry bring to Villa Park will be a key part to their attempt at gaining Premier League status once again.
