Jordan Amavi set for transfer to Marseille

According to L’Equipe, Jordan Amavi is getting closer to a move away from Villa Park to join French side Marseille.

Amavi joined Villa in 2015 from Nice for £9m but after injury and lack of form he is set to leave the club just two years later. The French full-back hasn’t scored for Villa but he has made four assists in 48 appearances.

He spent more than half-a-year on the sidelines for Villa after suffering a cruciate ligament rupture in November 2015, he returned to full fitness in June last year.

Neil Taylor, who signed from Swansea in January, started at left-back for Villa in their Championship opener vs Hull, which ended 1-1 and Amavi wasn’t even on the bench for that game so it looks likely that he will leave.

Marseille are looking to bring in Amavi for €10m as a backup option for Patrice Evra, who joined from Juventus in January, or even as a first-team starter as they look to strengthen their side for the new Ligue 1 season.

Evra is now 36 so Amavi would be brought in to keep the former Manchester United player fit for the 2017/18 season. Marseille will be in the Europa League which means many games would be played so squad depth is key.
