Villa to fight Cardiff for James McArthur

Aston Villa are reportedly set to fight Cardiff City and Neil Warnock to try and sign Crystal Palace star James McArthur and also Hannover 96 star Niclas Fuellkrug, according to Wales Online.

Cardiff City have already confirmed Premier League, finishing second in the Championship, being promoted automatically, and are now looking at transfers for the upcoming summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, Steve Bruce has the Play-Off games against Middlesbrough and a potential Play-Off Final to focus on before he knows if Villa will be in the Championship or Premier League next season and can then focus on potential transfers.

James McArthur is a transfer target of both clubs, who was signed by Neil Warnock when he was in charge at Selhurst Park in 2014.

McArthur has been a crucial part of Roy Hodgson’s team this season and the former England boss will likely see him as an integral key to building Palace and guiding them up the Premier League table in the near future.

The two clubs have also been linked with Hannover 96 star Niclas Fuellkrug, who is believed to cost around £10m, after having a very impressive season in the Bundesliga scoring 13 goals.

Villa need to strengthen up front and could find a lot worse than the firepower of Fuellkrug. It just waits to be seen whether Villa get into the Premier League and can offer the top flight to their two targets.
