Aston Villa lining up a move for Matej Vydra
Aston Villa are leading the race to sign Championship top scorer Matej Vydra this summer, according to the bookies’ latest odds, as per the Birmingham Mail.
The forward’s future has been thrust into the limelight following Derby’s play-off defeat to Fulham, with many reporting that Vydra will be moving away from Pride Park.
Villa are still unsure whether they’ll be a Premier League side next season, however, signing the 21-goal-man would make sense whether they were to make it or not.
Rams chairman Mel Morris has said the club are looking to trim the wage bill over the summer, and selling their top scorer would be one way of achieving that.
Vydra notched 21 goals for Derby in their march to the play-offs this season, picking up the Golden Boot in the process.
Fulham are the current favourites to sign the 26-year old with West Brom also circling, meaning Villa will have a battle on their hands to sign the Czech Republic international.
