Steve Bruce’s 100th game in charge at Aston Villa didn’t go according to the script as his side were beaten 2-1 at home by Sheffield Wednesday.
Make no mistakes about it, this performance was just as bad as the one that they put in when they were humbled 4-1 away to Sheffield United. In fact, if it wasn’t for some great defending by Alan Hutton, some fine keeping by Nyland, and some profligate finishing from the Owls, the scoreline would have been similar too.
Okay, the players should be getting more blame placed on their shoulders for their lacklustre performances, but Bruce is not helping his cause by continuing to make ridiculous decisions such as sticking Mile Jedinak at centre-back. Every Villa fan and their dog can see that Jedinak struggles when playing in the heart of defence, but Bruce seems to think he will only get better.
Bruce recently stated that he wants to be in charge for another 100 games, but if things keep going the way they are, he will be lucky to have another 10 games in charge of this once great club, let alone 100.
Here are our Aston Villa player ratings for today’s humbling defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.
