Jack Grealish’s new contract at Aston Villa contains a release clause set at a huge figure worth £45 million, according to a report from the Times.
The playmaker was a wanted man during the summer transfer window but Villa were able to retain his services after being taken over by Nassef Sawiris and Wes Eden, easing their financial problems in the process.
Tottenham Hotspur made significant efforts to lure the England Under-21 international away from Villa Park but were unable to meet the Championship club’s asking price.

Grealish was keen to complete the switch to Spurs in the summer but has proceeded to put pen to paper on a new deal with Villa as he looks to help them return to the Premier League this season.
The attacking midfielder’s displays so far this term have been short of consistency but with his future seemingly now settled, Grealish will be out to bounce back to top form.
If Tottenham, or any other potential suitors, do intend to reignite their pursuit of Villa’s prized asset, it seems they will now be forced to splash the cash, with offers below £45m unlikely to be considered.
