Aston Villa are considering an ambitious swoop to appoint Paulo Fonseca as the club’s new first-team manager, according to a report from Birmingham Live.
The Championship outfit are keen to swiftly make a managerial appointment following their decision to relieve Steve Bruce of his duties on Wednesday.
Bruce was given his marching orders after a poor start to the Championship season, with Villa sat underwhelmingly low in 13th place. The dismissal came just a day after the team could only manage a 3-3 draw at home to rock-bottom Preston North End.
Nevertheless, Villa’s board have swiftly turned their attention towards the next man through the door at the club, with Fonseca the latest to be touted as an option.

The Portuguese manager is currently at the helm of Shakhtar Donetsk and has earned rave reviews in Ukraine, having previously been linked with moves to Everton and West Ham.
It’s reported by Birmingham Live that Fonseca is also closely in contact with footballing super-agent Jorge Mendes, who Villa have a strong working relationship with.
Villa’s hierarchy look set to utilise the upcoming international break as they continue their search of a manager who can help the club mount a fresh promotion push.
