Aston Villa are in the running to sign Gary Cahill from Chelsea, with the ex-England man reportedly told he can leave in the new year.
The Daily Express, as cited on the Metro, reports that Chelsea have told the defender he is free to leave the club during the January transfer window.
Cahill has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge, finding game time hard to come by under new head coach Maurizio Sarri.

Manchester United are one of the many teams to be linked with Chelsea’s club captain, while West Ham, Southampton and Championship duo Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday have also been credited with an interest.
Cahill was recently confirmed as the club captain for the season, which may hint that he could see out the season with the Blues.
Villa will be hoping that John Terry can lure his former team-mate and central defensive partner down to the Championship in January.
