Villa fear Chester could miss Birmingham clash after international injury

Aston Villa defender James Chester is a doubt for the derby clash with Birmingham City next weekend after suffering an injury with Wales, according to sportslens.

The 29-year-old has featured in all but two of Villa’s fixtures so far and has been a standout performer under former boss Steve Bruce and current manager Dean Smith during the current campaign.

The dominant central defender has found the back of the net three times this season, however, it looks like the Welshman is set to miss next Sunday’s crucial fixture at Villa Park.

Chester limped off injured in Wales’ 2-1 defeat to Denmark on Friday night and was replaced in the 50th minute by Chelsea’s Ethan Ampadu.

The extent of the injury is still unknown, with Chester recently pulling out of Wales’ squad for the friendly in Albania on Tuesday.

A win for Villa next weekend could lift them to within a point of the play-offs, however, it looks like they will be without their captain when Garry Monk’s side arrive at Villa Park.
