Dean Smith admits Aston Villa pair could leave on loan in January

Aston Villa manager Dean Smith says young pair Callum O’Hare and Jake Doyle-Hayes could head out on loan in January.

Both players are seen as two of the club’s most exciting academy prospects, but first-team opportunities are not coming their way this season.

With Villa pushing for promotion to the Premier League that is unlikely to change, considering their level of inexperience.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail, Smith said a move away will be beneficial for both, as they continue to mature as footballers:

I think that’s really important.

These under-23s need to go and play men’s football.

They come back better players and better people. They go out and see the real world playing alongside some seasoned professionals who rely on winning games for bonuses.

Going out on loan to me is something that’s really important for their development and it’s something that we’re keen to do.

Both O’Hare and Doyle-Hayes, 20 and 19 respectively, are sure to have interest in them in January, particularly lower down the divisions.

Their quality can make an undoubted different to a lesser team and improve them as a players moving forward.

Forward O’Hare is an England U20 international, while midfielder Doyle-Hayes currently plays for Republic of Ireland U19s.
