Aston Villa have ended their interest in a deal to re-sign Gary Cahill, according to the Telegraph.
John Percy reports that Dean Smith’s side have deemed the deal to be too expensive ahead of the January transfer window.
Chelsea are ready to let the player leave in January either on loan or permanently, but his wages are proving to be a stumbling block.

Cahill is believed to be earning somewhere in the region of £110,000 a week and Chelsea would prefer for a club to pay that in full if they are to loan him until the summer.
Villa had been among a number of clubs looking at Cahill as a potential signing after he fell out of favour under Maurizio Sarri.
While a move for Cahill in January is not completely being ruled out, it is highly unlikely he will end up at Villa Park by the end of the month.
The report claims that Villa could go back in for the player as a potential transfer target in the summer if they secure promotion.
