Aston Villa could be set to miss out on the loan signing of Chelsea star Ethan Ampadu.
According to a report from Goal, Maurizio Sarri could start the Welsh international in the FA Cup over the weekend, as it is suggested that he could still have a part to play at Stamford Bridge during the second half of the season.
Chelsea welcome the Championship side to Stamford Bridge over the weekend and changes to Sarri’s starting XI are expected.
The report claims that as things stand, Ampadu is not expected to leave Chelsea on loan during the January window, but that could change later down the line.
Premier League side Cardiff have confirmed their interest in the player, while Championship duo Derby County and Aston Villa are also keen.
Frank Lampard and John Terry will be hoping to strike a deal with their former side, but Chelsea could opt to keep the player around the first-team squad.
Ampadu is rated highly by Sarri and has the ability to play in defence or midfield, making him a versatile option to provide depth for the Blues.
