Aston Villa have completed a late deal for Swansea City midfielder Leroy Fer, according to sports journalist Pete O’Rourke.
The 29-year-old, who has been capped 11 times by the Netherlands, has played 24 times for Swansea this season, scoring one goal and providing two assists.
The Swans didn’t really want to lose one of their best players, but he is on high wages and they are looking to decrease their wage bill as they have started to feel the squeeze after last season’s relegation from the Premier League.

Furthermore, he only had 6 months left on his contract, so it was best for them if they cashed in on him now rather than let him leave for free in the summer. Talking about fees, it is not yet known how much Villa have paid Swansea for his services.
Villa’s midfield has lacked creativity this season and they haven’t provided the support that the defence has desperately needed, and it looks like Smith has identified Fer as someone who can do a bit of both.
