Aston Villa have sent a number of their young players out on loan to League 1 and League 2 clubs today, with Harry McKirdy being the latest to leave Villa Park for the rest of the season.
The promising 21-year-old striker, who started his career at Stoke before he moved to Villa in 2011, has been loaned out to Newport County in League 2.
McKirdy, unlike a number of his fellow young Villains, is yet to make his debut for Villa’s senior side and this will be his third stint in the fourth tier of English football – he has previously spent time as Stevenage and Crewe Alexandra.
During his time at Stevenage (the first half of the 2016/17 season), McKirdy made 13 appearances and scored 1 goal. While he was at Crewe (the second half of last season), he made 16 appearances and scored 3 goals.
The youngster will know that 4 goals in 29 appearances is not that great, and he will be desperate to bang in the goals for Newport to show Dean Smith what he is capable of.
