Smith calls for calm in Villa’s play-off hunt

Villa boss Dean Smith said his players aren’t feeling the pressure as they find themselves in a tightly-contested play-off race, according to the Express & Star.

When you go into any game at this stage of the season and you are in the top six, it’s a pressure game.

But watching the lads training and playing, it doesn’t seem like there’s a lot of pressure on them. It seems like they are enjoying their football again. That is good for me.

After winning their last five games, Villa enter the final seven games sitting in sixth, one point behind Bristol City.

On Saturday, Smith’s side head to Sheffield Wednesday who are currently unbeaten under Steve Bruce. They then head to Rotherham before facing Bristol City.

Despite the pressure being firmly on Dean Smith’s men, he says that they are going to be relaxed heading into these important games.

I don’t think you want to be packed with adrenaline going into these games. You want to be thinking clearly and going in relaxed. They look like they are doing that and enjoying their football.

A man certainly enjoying his football is Villa’s Tammy Abraham who currently has 22 goals to his name.

Just two goals off top goalscorer Teemu Pukki, Chelsea-loanee Abraham has returned to his best form after netting against Blackburn Rovers.

The England youth international also found himself in Sky Bet’s Championship Team of the Month for March.

Villa fans will be hoping for a different score against Sheffield Wednesday than the reverse fixture in September, which saw Wednesday win 2-1.
