Two late goals from Tammy Abraham and Albert Adomah gave Villa their sixth consecutive victory in the Championship on Saturday, as Dean Smith’s side won 3-1 away to Sheffield Wednesday.
Steve Bruce’s Owls went into the tie off the back of a 12-match unbeaten run, but the former Villa boss tasted defeat against his old side for the first time since taking charge at Hillsborough.
Smith meanwhile has guided his side to fifth in the Championship, three points clear of Derby County one place below the playoff spots, though Frank Lampard’s have a game in hand, as do Bristol City in sixth.
