Aston Villa keen on Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden

Aston Villa will join the race to sign Isaac Hayden this summer if they get promoted to the Premier League, according to the Chronicle.

West Ham United and Brighton are also said to be interested in making a move for Hayden during the summer window, who is thought to be open to a move away from St James’ Park.

The Englishman struggled for first-team football at the start of last season, but from Boxing Day onwards, the midfielder has featured in every single game.

His energy in the middle of the park was integral to Newcastle’s improved form from January onwards that saw them move up the league away from the relegation zone.

This is a move that will not get over the line quickly, as any business involving Newcastle is set to be delayed until the future of Rafa Benitez is finalised.

Given his impressive performances in the last few months of the season, Newcastle will be wanting to keep hold of Hayden and it will reportedly take an offer of around £15million for them to consider parting ways with the midfielder.

Aston Villa’s true interest in Hayden will become clear after their Championship Play-Off final against Derby County on Monday.

Should they win this game, they will need to keep hold of key players and strengthen their squad so they are going to be in a better position to compete in the Premier League next season.
