Aston Villa 2-1 Derby: Four things learned

Aston Villa secured their place in the Premier League next season as they beat Derby 2-1 in the play-off final on Monday.

Dean Smith’s side scored either side of half-time as they controlled the match against Frank Lampard’s Derby.

Anwar El Ghazi opened the scoring in the 45th minute as he stooped low to divert the ball into the bottom corner via the aid of his shoulder, before Derby goalkeeper Roos scored an unfortunate own goal to make it 2-0.

Jack Marriott pulled one back with a smart finish in the 80th minute, but Derby were unable to complete the comeback.

Villa now join Norwich City and Sheffield United in moving up to the Premier League from the Championship – after a three-year spell in the second tier of English football.

Following on from Villa’s exceptional win at Wembley, here are four things we learned from the game heading into the summer!
