Aston Villa are set to face competition in their pursuit of Chelsea defender Todd Kane this summer, according to Football Insider.
Reports suggest that fellow Premier League newcomers Sheffield United have also registered their interest in Kane, alongside Championship duo Derby County and Fulham.
Kane is available on a free transfer after parent club Chelsea decided not to offer him a new contract at the club. The 25-year-old has been at the West London club since 2001, rising through their academy from an early age, but as has been the case with many of Chelsea’s young prospects over the years he became a victim of their heavily saturated loan system, playing for eight different clubs in just over seven years.

Kane finally seemed to discover some consistency both in his form and subsequently his minutes on the pitch as he made 41 appearances on loan at Hull City – the most appearances he had made in a single season since 2012/13, attracting the attention of Aston Villa among many other potential suitors.
The right-back provides an excellent forward-thinking option for the Villains, scoring three times and assisting once last season, whilst his 1.3 tackles per game offer a steady return for a player whose main asset is his attacking output.
