According to Football Insider, Aston Villa are stepping up their interest in Huddersfield’s Terence Kongolo and have opened talks over a deal for the defender.
The 25-year-old impressed in what was a disastrous season for Huddersfield Town as the Yorkshire team were relegated to the second tier.
The Dutchman was signed in last year’s summer transfer window for a club-record fee of £17.5 million and it’s unlikely that the defender will want to play in the Championship next season.
Kongolo, who can play as a centre-back and as a left-back, appeared 32 times for the Terriers last season, scoring one and as well as registering one assist too.
He was also part of the 2014 Dutch World Cup squad that recorded a third-place finish, although he only made one appearance during that tournament.
Villa are in need of centre-backs with both Axel Tuanzebe and Tyrone Mings, who were both crucial to their promotion, set to return to their respective clubs this summer.
