Wales Online reported a few weeks back that Aston Villa had an £8 million bid rejected by Cardiff City for 29-year-old goalkeeper Neil Etheridge.
That no longer seems to be the case as Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock played down any suggestions of a bid being made.
Speaking to the Mirror, as cited on Birmingham Live, the Cardiff boss said:
I’ve had no offers whatsoever for Neil. I’ve read comments we’ve turned down an £8million offer from this club and that club, but I’ve not received any phone calls and I don’t think Ken Choo has.
Etheridge was a mainstay for the club in the Premier League, appearing in all 38 league games for Cardiff. He was one of only a few standout performers for the Welsh side, as they battled bravely against relegation back to the Championship.
The Philippines international kept 10 clean sheets as well as saving an impressive three penalties during the club’s Premier League campaign.
Villa are believed to be in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer and have also been linked with a move to sign Stoke and England shot-stopper Jack Butland.
