Aston Villa are set to face a rival bid from Fulham in their pursuit of Newcastle United’s Dwight Gayle, according to the Birmingham Mail.
Scott Parker’s side are reportedly looking at a bid for Gayle, who spent last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion.
Any move would likely see Alexandr Mitrovic leave the club, just a year after making the swap from Newcastle to Fulham.

Aston Villa have also been linked with a move for Gayle, who won’t be returning to West Brom next season.
The Baggies, who’s promotion chances were ended by Villa in the playoffs, revealed that they would be unable to pay Gayle’s “Premier League” wages if they were to sign the forward on a permanent deal.
Aston Villa have already signed a forward this window, with Brazilian striker Wesley joining Villa from Belgian side Club Brugge for over £22 million.
Villa could also still go in for Gayle, who could offer excellent depth in the position.
