Aston Villa are still hopeful about signing England international Jack Butland, as they eye a cut-price deal for the goalkeeper.
According to the Mirror, Stoke City want a reported fee of around £23 million for their goalkeeper, but Villa are aiming to lower that price.
The 26-year-old had a decent 2018/19 season for the Potters last season, keeping 18 clean sheets in his 45 games for the club, despite conceding the 51.
The Englishman will be seeking a move back into one of Europe’s top leagues in order to force himself into the England picture. His last cap for his country was back in September 2018, during a friendly against Switzerland.
Gareth Southgate has warned his players that they need to be playing regularly in a major league.
Butland has made 77 appearances in the Premier League, where he has proven himself a quality keeper on his day.
Bournemouth are also reportedly interested in the 26-year-old, so Dean Smith’s side have got a fight on their hands for the goalkeeper’s signature.
