Liverpool and Aston Villa have been tracking Southampton defender Matt Targett this summer ahead of a potential summer move.
And it appears as if Dean Smith’s side are ready to firm up their initial interest with an official offer in the region of £8 million, according to the Express and Star.

Welsh international Neil Taylor is the only senior left-back contracted at Villa Park and it appears as if boss Smith is looking to bolster that area ahead of Villa’s top-flight return.
Targett made 16 Premier League appearances for the Saints last season, battling the experienced Ryan Bertrand for a starting spot under Ralph Hasenhuttl.
Bertrand has also been linked with a move away from St Mary’s this summer, with European giants Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan showing surprise interest in the former Chelsea defender.
Hasenhuttl is unlikely to let both left-backs go this summer, so Villa placing an official offer for Targett could end up being a smart move as they look to wrap up a deal in the coming weeks.
