Schalke have had a loan offer for Aston Villa target Ben Gibson turned down this week.
According to The Birmingham Mail, Schalke swooped in with a move to take Gibson on loan, which was rejected by Burnley.
The report claims that Aston Villa have held a long-term interest in Gibson, potentially dating back to his days at Middlesbrough in the Championship.

Gibson joined Burnley from Middlesbrough last summer in a deal said to be worth £15m, but he has struggled to settle in at Turf Moor.
A mixture of form and injuries has prevented him from nailing down a place in Sean Dyche’s side, leading to interest from clubs wanting to take him away from Burnley – including Schalke and Aston Villa.
The report does not state why the offer was rejected, or if Burnley are still open to sending Gibson out on loan – if the price is right.
