Rumoured Aston Villa transfer target Kalvin Phillips has turned down an improved contract at Leeds United, according to Football Insider.
The midfielder excelled for Leeds last season, helping them reach the Championship playoffs.
A move to the Premier League has been mooted, however, with Villa strongly linked with the 23-year-old.
Leeds are clearly desperate to keep hold of one of their most prized assets, offering him a new-and-improved deal.
The opening offer has been rejected by Phillips, however, due to it being ‘a long way off what he is seeking’.
The news is sure to alert Villa, who want the midfielder to increase quality and depth in their squad ahead of their return to the top flight.
They are believed to have had one bid turned down already, but their interest is unlikely to end there.
Fellow Premier League pair Wolves and Bournemouth are also being tipped to make a move for the Leeds academy product.
