Aston Villa forward Rushian Hepburn-Murphy is reportedly on the verge of joining newly-promoted Tranmere Rovers on a season-long loan deal, according to Football Insider.
The England U-20 international has been identified as a key target for Tranmere after they achieved promotion back to League One last season, and Villa feel that the forward would greatly benefit from more regular first-team football at Prenton Park.
Dean Smith is well aware of the potential Hepburn-Murphy possesses, with the youngster having already made 17 senior appearances despite only turning 20 at the start of last season.
He is also the second-youngest player to appear for Villa, after making his Premier League debut against Sunderland when he was only 16 years old.
Such accolades and statistics will, however, mean nothing if Hepburn-Murphy doesn’t begin to showcase his undeniable talent under the backdrop of what is sure to be a gruelling campaign for Tranmere as they attempt to stay up at the first time of asking despite limited funds.
Hepburn-Murphy has shone at various youth levels, notching 20 goals in 39 appearances for Villa’s Premier League 2 side, but a return of just two goals in 16 appearances on loan at Cambridge United last season highlights the progress that needs to be made if he is to force his way into the first team at Villa Park.
