Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing James Tavernier, but only if Ahmed Elmohamady leaves to join Newcastle United.
Steve Bruce is reportedly interested in reuniting with the defender, who he brought to Villa from his former club Hull City.
Villa could launch a bid for Tavernier if the sale does go through, with Tavernier offering a better option than James Bree in the Premier League.
However, if Newcastle cannot sign Elmohamady, then they may also turn their attention to the Rangers man.
Football Insider report that Steven Gerrard’s side are expecting bids for the defender, but will not accept bids for less than £10 million for their captain.
The Scottish side want to keep the defender at the club, with Tavernier being an important member of their team.

James Tavernier could offer Villa some great depth if Elmohamedy leaves, but it has to be asked if paying £10 million for another defender is worth it at this point.
Frederic Guilbert has been playing at right-back in pre-season, but if Elmohamady leaves it would only leave James Bree as the backup option.
