Aston Villa target Kalvin Phillips is reportedly closing in on agreeing a new deal to keep him at Leeds United.
The midfielder, who was linked with a move to Villa during the summer, is currently in talks with Marcelo Biesla’s side over a potential new deal, according to The Athletic, with the report claiming that progress has been made in negotiations.

This would be important for Villa, with the report also claiming that Wolverhampton Wanderers are ready to make a bid in January, if the player does not sign a new contract by then.
Leeds have put a high price tag on the midfielder, but he has already rejected one contract offer put on the table.

Villa looked at a deal for Phillips over the summer, but the price tag was simply too high for Dean Smith.
Douglas Luiz and Marvelous Nakamba were brought in also, meaning that it’s hard to see Villa paying a big fee to sign the Leeds man.

If he doesn’t sign a deal, it’s hard to see him not moving to Wolves, who have spent a lot less than Villa so far this season.
With Villa having a lot of depth in midfield also, it wouldn’t make that much sense to bring Phillips in.
However, what is certain is that if he signs a deal, he is likely staying with Leeds.
