Aston Villa got their first three points of the season thanks to a 2-0 win over Everton at Villa Park on Friday evening.
The Toffees got off to the better start, but Dean Smith’s men weathered the storm admirably and took the lead in the 21st minute when Wesley Moraes latched onto a defence-splitting pass from Jota and calmly slotted the ball past Jordan Pickford in the Everton goal.
Everton had two golden opportunities to score in the second half, but Alex Iwobi saw his first-time effort strike the post while Theo Walcott somehow failed to hit the target from just six yards out.
Villa put the game to bed deep into injury time when Anwar El Ghazi picked up a neat through ball from John McGinn and passed the ball under Pickford and into the net.
Next up for Dean Smith’s men is a trip to Crewe on Tuesday evening to take on Crewe Alexandra in the Carabao Cup.
Smith will make a number of changes for this game as Villa, but whatever team he decides to pick should easily be able to overcome the League 2 outfit.
Here is our predicted Villa XI for Tuesday’s game against Crewe:
