Manchester United are reportedly looking to sign John McGinn in the January transfer window, according to former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan.
Speaking to Football Insider, he claims that the Red Devils are keeping a close eye on the player after his fantastic start to the season.
He’s Villa’s one shining light. When you watch Villa, McGinn is the best player every game. He is involved in everything and is a fantastic player.
That is why Man United are looking at him for January. That’s what I’ve been told. They’re scouting him. I think Man United could do with someone like McGinn. He would be far better for them than someone like Juan Mata.
McGinn has been one of Villa’s best players since their promotion back to the top flight, so can the club keep him beyond the January window?

Villa can certainly expect interest in McGinn to rise after seeing the way that he has stepped up to the plate in the Premier League.
Not only was he one of the club’s key players last season in the Championship, but he is now also leading by example in the top flight.
He has already come up with important goals against Tottenham and Arsenal, so it’s easy to see why the big clubs would be interested in a deal – espically Manchester United when you take into account the midfield problems that they have endured this season.
Villa will be under no pressure to sell in January and with Jack Grealish, they’ve already proven that they can ward off interest from some of the Premier League big boys.
For January at least, Villa will surely feel confident about their chances of keeping the player.
