VAR has proven once again to be the chagrin of many Aston Villa fans, after a decision ruled out the club’s opener due to an offside.
Many fans were up in arms earlier this month when Villa were denied an equalising goal against Crystal Palace in the dying moments after the referee wrongly blew up due to a perceived dive from Jack Grealish.
On that occasion, VAR couldn’t be used to reverse the referee’s decision, but many fans were still frustrated that despite video referees being at the game, nothing could be done to give them justice.

Against Burnley this afternoon, Conor Hourihane whipped a cross into John McGinn who duly converted, but VAR pulled the Villans back on an offside ruling.
While Anwar El Ghazi did eventually score the game’s opener shortly afterward, several Villa fans were still frustrated with VAR, expressing their feelings on social media.

VAR is undoubtedly frustrating. Despite the situation against Crystal Palace boiling down to a refereeing error, not VAR, and with the offside against Burnley a good decision, the unreliability of VAR is definitely a problem.
Goal line technology was something that was introduced to improve the game, and it did with ease. There were no hiccups, and it was initially and still is really effective. VAR though has some way to go to reach the same level of respectability.
