Former Blackburn Rovers full-back Michel Salgado has revealed that he tried to sign winger Trezeguet for Celta Vigo last summer, as reported on The National.
The Egyptian opted to join Villa in an £8.75m deal in July 2019 and has made a decent start to life at the club.
Salgado, who worked closely with Trezeguet during his time as the assistant manager of the Egypt national team, said:
I was in there, and you can imagine Trezeguet, I tried to sign him for Celta Vigo.
But finally Aston Villa put an offer and they got him.
But I wanted Trezeguet in my country and playing for Celta Vigo.

The 25-year-old has found the back of the net four times and registered three assists in all competitions this season (Transfermarkt).
His most notable goal came late in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Leicester City, sending Villa to the final of the competition.
We feel that Trezeguet’s form has dipped recently and this is proven by the fact that he has not been involved in a league goal since the first match of December
Some fans feel that he should be starting more regularly, however, we feel that his pace and energy from the bench is something that could swing games in Villa’s favour.
