As reported on Sky Sports, Aston Villa were interested in making a January move for Brentford attacker Said Benrahma.
However, a move for the Championship star failed to materialise and the player ended up staying with Brentford.
Benrahma is in great form this season and has found the back of the net eight times in the Championship, whilst also registering six assists (Transfermarkt).
The 24-year-old helped his side to a crucial 3-2 victory over Middlesbrough last weekend and as usual, expressed his skills with the ball at his feet.
The Algerian international neatly nutmegged his opponent once, before backheeling the ball through the same player’s legs, straight to a teammate, much to the delight of the home crowd.
One Aston Villa fan account posted a clip on Twitter of the skill which has now had almost 500 likes and encouraged the Premier League side to pay whatever amount needed to secure his signature at the end of the season if Dean Smith’s side manage to stay in the top-flight.
Many Villa fans reacted to the video with regret that the club failed to sign him over the last two transfer windows.
Twitter: @Total_Villa Arsenal and Leicester both credited with interest so doubt he’d choose Villa. Missed our chance in the summer… (@VillaByTheSea2)
Twitter: @Total_Villa If we stay up we should go for Benrahma?
We came up and should’ve looked at him….. we got Trezeguet. (@LH__ten)
Twitter: @Total_Villa Think we missed our chance in this window. Had so much exposure will be a struggle to sign him now. (@ScottMcniven)
Twitter: @Total_Villa I think it’s far too late for us now tbh. We had to get him last summer. (@TheAsgardian)
Twitter: @Total_Villa Probably be like Bowen and miss him (@_Resilient)
Twitter: @Total_Villa We had a chance to get him. Smith stalled. Just like he stalled on maupay. Just like he stalled on bowen. (@arkyta)
Twitter: @Total_Villa We made a mistake in the summer. We should have signed him instead of trez and el ghazi. We went for quantity over quality. (@pjb412)
