Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa has revealed that the squad came together to support Bjorn Engels in the dressing room after the defeat against Tottenham Hotspur, as reported on the club’s official website.
Jose Mourinho’s side netted a stoppage-time winner at Villa Park on Sunday to claim a 3-2 victory in a pulsating encounter.
Engels, who had netted for Villa early in the second half to make it 2-2, made the mistake to allow Son Heung-Min to race clear and slot past Pepe Reina in the 94th minute.
But Konsa revealed that Engels had the full support of his teammates in the dressing room after the game. He said:
Everyone makes mistakes in football, it’s just about how you react, but he [Engels] knows it himself because he’s experienced.
We’re all close in the changing room so we all put our arm around him.

Engels was visibly distraught with his error but has been supported magnificently by the players and plenty of fans.
This admission by Konsa makes us feel that if anything is going to motivate the team to survival this season, it will be team spirit.
The players have every right to be upset and angry at Engels, but the decision to get behind him and support him in the dressing room shows us that the defeat could end up making the team’s mentality and unity stronger than ever before.
As reported on the official Premier League website, it was the defender’s first error that has resulted in a goal in 16 appearances and it’s also worth remembering that without his goal, Villa would not have even been in with a chance of securing a point.
