Aston Villa goalkeeper Pepe Reina believes that the only way the club can avoid relegation this season is by working hard in training and securing positive results, as reported on the club’s official website.
Dean Smith’s side fell to a 3-2 defeat at Villa Park on Sunday against Tottenham Hotspur, with Heung-Min Son netting the winner for the visitors deep into stoppage time after a defensive mistake by Bjorn Engels.
Reina was in top form for Villa and feels the hard work needs to continue. He said:
During training over the last week or 10 days after the winter break, the team have done very, very well. A lot of rhythm and pace in training and that’s the only way to stay up.
I think the team has shown a great performance. We believe in the three points all the time and that’s the only way to keep Villa up. We believe in that.

Reina was in inspired form to give Villa a chance of gaining a positive result. The Spaniard saved a penalty and made multiple saves to deny the visitors, but it wasn’t enough to help the team avoid defeat.
To hear that the players have been working with a lot of intensity in training is good news because it shows that the winter break has provided them with a chance to recharge themselves ahead of a crucial stage of the season.
It will be interesting to see if the pace and rhythm that Reina mentioned remain in training after this morale-crushing defeat.
