Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn is set to return to the training pitch this week, as reported by The Athletic (£).
The report revealed that the Scottish international will begin light training on the grass, whilst also working on his physical fitness, after a long spell on the sidelines.
McGinn was injured in December during the home Premier League clash with Southampton, where he was forced off with a serious ankle problem.
The midfielder was then ruled out for at least three months due to the injury but he has been making strides in his recovery and rehabilitation.
Many Villa fans are excited about his potential early return, whilst others are cautious not to see him rushed back into action too early because it could risk further injury to the midfielder.
McGinn was one of Villa’s standout players before he suffered the injury, netting three goals and providing two assists in the top-flight (Transfermarkt).
Dean Smith’s side have lost four of the eight matches that McGinn has missed in the league, which goes some way to proving his importance to the team.
These fans gave their views on the news on Twitter, with some seemingly over the moon, whilst others being pretty reserved in their reaction.

Midfield has been so lacklustre without him (@RealBadListener)

Twitter: @VillaTil1Die Would be massive for the cup final but I’d rather he wasn’t risked if it is a risk, will be essential… https://t.co/oxlXMjDgL6 (@GarethAVL)
