Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn will step up his recovery from an ankle injury by returning to light training this week, according to a report on The Athletic.
The Scottish international suffered a broken ankle during the Premier League clash with Southampton at Villa Park last December.
The report reveals that McGinn is due to start running on the grass again either today (Wednesday) or tomorrow, before working on his physical fitness.
McGinn has hopes of recovering in time for the Carabao Cup final on 1st March, with Dean Smith not ruling it out just yet.

In our opinion, the return of McGinn will be a huge boost for Smith’s side because of his box-to-box midfield play.
As stated on the official Premier League website, he has three goals and two assists in the top-flight, whilst also winning 138 duels and making 16 interceptions.
This goes some way to proving his importance to the team at both ends of the pitch.
However, we feel that he should not be rushed back into action, because that could do more harm than good if he ends up getting injured again.
It’s still a big boost because current midfielder Danny Drinkwater has not been in good form, getting criticism from fans and pundits for his recent display against Tottenham Hotspur.
