Fredric Guilbert started for Aston Villa in the right wingback position against Southampton on Saturday.
Dean Smith’s side fell to a 2-0 defeat and following the game, Guilbert admitted on social media that his display was simply not good enough.
Many fans on Twitter are happy that the Frenchman is being honest, rather than hiding the fact that his individual display was pretty poor.
He found it difficult to contain Southampton winger Moussa Djenepo, who was a nuisance all game.
The full-back committed five fouls in the encounter, which was the most of any member of the entire Villa team (WhoScored).
However, his other defensive statistics looked pretty decent. The 25-year-old made four clearances, two interceptions and three total tackles during the defeat, which is considerably more than some of his teammates.
The defender then highlighted the importance of working hard to improve performance levels and these Villa fans on Twitter appreciated the player’s honesty.
