Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings believes the team needs to fight and battle if they are to avoid relegation this season, as reported on the club’s official website.
Mings was speaking after Villa’s 2-0 defeat against Southampton, which keeps them one point above the relegation zone with West Ham United playing Liverpool on Monday evening.
He said:
We’re in a relegation battle and the minimum requirement is to fight and battle and we didn’t do that.
We can have no complaints because it wasn’t good enough.

Mings returned to Villa’s starting XI after missing the defeat to Tottenham due to tonsilitis.
He put in a decent display, in our opinion, proven by that fact that he made six clearances and blocked three shots, both being more than anyone else in the Villa team (WhoScored).
The Englishman replaced Bjorn Engels in the XI and we believe that he should keep his place in the team for the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City because of his display.
Many fans on Twitter have responded to Mings’ comments, claiming that they’re sick of hearing words and now want to see some action on the pitch, which we believe is fair enough.
We feel the perfect chance to show grit, determination and passion is this Sunday at Wembley, where the team will be roared on by 33,666 fans.
