Many Manchester City fans are distraught after centre-back Aymeric Laporte suffered an injury on Wednesday night.
The Frenchman was forced off during City’s UEFA Champions League last 16 first-leg encounter with Real Madrid and looks unlikely to be fit in time for this Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Aston Villa.
The defender has had a disastrous season in terms of injurires, missing a large chunk of the campaign after damaging his knee ligaments against Brighton and Hove Albion in August.
Five months later, Laporte returned to action for City, starting in their 1-0 away victory over Sheffield United in January.
City boss Pep Guardiola confirmed the setback following his side’s 2-1 victory in Spain and we could now see either Fernandinho or John Stones to continue filling in for the injured defender.
He is a crucial member of the team, proven by the fact that City have not lost any of the matches he has featured in this season.
These City fans on Twitter were clearly upset by the concerning news.
