Noel Whelan has backed Leeds United to make a move for Aston Villa star Tyrone Mings this summer.
Whelan says that he would be a great signing for Leeds and also suggests that Villa could demand a fee of around £30m, although that is simply his prediction and not based on any report.
Speaking to Football Insider about Leeds possibly signing Mings, Whelan said:
Mings is a fantastic player and a great buy. I would have snapped him up after the way he played last season.
He got his England cap as well so it goes to show he is a very good centre-half. He has every attribute you would like – decent on the ball, strong, committed, good stature and very quick as well.
He is player that is only going to get better but if Aston Villa go down he will be in demand by other Premier League clubs. There may be a clause in his contract but I would presume Aston Villa will want more than £30million.

Mings is an interesting one because the statistics suggest that he is having an average season – at best. He has recorded a WhoScored rating of just 6.63 – lower than Kortney Hause – and Aston Villa have conceded the most goals in the entire Premier League.
He ranks 20th in Villa’s squad for tackle per game, with 0.5, 11th in the squad for interceptions per game, with 0.8, and is 10th in the squad for pass completion, with 79.9%. These stats may not be ones that you would associate with a player who earned his first England call-up and cap this season, but they are the facts.
Despite what he offers aside from the flaws mentioned above, his aerial dominance and leadership on the pitch, an offer of £30m or above could be good business for Villa if they are relegated. They could then use that money to reinvest in the squad and look to go again in the Championship.
