It’s fair to say that Aston Villa have experienced mixed fortunes at Wembley in their recent history.
Even in the last year, they have had the elation of winning the play-off final and the disappointment of losing to Manchester City in the League Cup final.
Prior to the play-off win, the most recent positive Wembley memory for fans will have been the FA Cup semi-final success against Liverpool in 2015.
Tim Sherwood’s side, against all odds, came from behind to secure a place in the final after goals from Christian Benteke and Fabian Delph pulled off the shock win.
And, Villa’s Twitter account picked the Belgian’s equaliser as their Goal of the Day today, sharing it on social media, with Benteke expertly firing in from a good cut-back by Delph.

As you would expect, watching the goal brought back a lot of happy memories from Villa fans – even if the thrashing against Arsenal in the final still hurts.
