Aston Villa make approach for Callum Wilson

Aston Villa have made an approach for Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson, according to Sky Sports News reporter Rob Dorsett.

Villa face competition from another Premier League club Newcastle United in their hunt for the recently relegated Wilson.

The Magpies are reportedly eyeing up a bid including cash and midfielder Matt Ritchie as part of the deal. For Ritchie, it would be a return to a former home as the left-sided midfielder spent three years on the South Coast before joining Newcastle.

Bournemouth recently lost Nathan Ake to Manchester City and will be keen to hold on to as many of their big names as possible, however, the 28-year-old is said to want to remain a Premier League player.

Villa could fulfil his wish, as Dean Smith looks to bring a proven top-flight goalscorer into his squad after a disappointing debut season from Wesley Moraes.

Wilson, who has earned England recognition, has 61 Premier League goals from 171 outings, although his form suffered following his return from a serious knee injury.

Now back to full fitness Wilson could provide the perfect option for Smith as he aims to build a squad fit for an easier survival campaign in 2020/21.
