Trezeguet risks being dropped for Aston Villa’s Premier League clash with Southampton, according to Alan Hutton.
Dean Smith’s side host Saints on Sunday afternoon, looking to get back to winning ways after the shock 3-0 loss at home to Leeds United.
Villa’s team has generally been very set this season, with the majority of it easy to pick week in, week out.
Trezeguet has been a prominent figure in the side, playing 408 minutes of action in five matches.
The 26-year-old didn’t have an impact against Leeds, however, and speaking to Football Insider, former Villa man Hutton believes he could be facing the axe this weekend:
I mean, if you look at the whole Aston Villa team, it’s the position that is up for grabs, in my opinion.
Obviously they paid a lot of money for Traore so he’s had to wait for his opportunity. I thought Trezeguet was quiet (v Leeds) but I think you have to look at the whole team, they never got the service that they would want.
They defended really deep and when they eventually got the ball back, there was nothing, there were no options, Leeds were swarming all over them. It was a difficult night for all the attacking players.
He’s probably the one that’s most scared of losing his position.

If Smith is considering making changes for the visit of Southampton, Trezeguet does feel like a logical figure to make way.
The Frenchman has been the least effective of Villa’s attacking players so far this season, often being relatively unnoticed out on the right wing.
He has failed to score in the league in 2020/21, despite Villa’s excellent, goal-filled start, while Jack Grealish (three), Ollie Watkins (three) and Ross Barkley (two) have eight between them.
It may be that Smith gives Trezeguet another chance to prove his worth, but the pressure is now really on him to perform.
